Regent College is a co-educational independent senior school and Sixth Form college located in Harrow, in north-west London. We dedicate ourselves not only to providing an excellent academic education, but also to providing an environment where students feel they can achieve their very best with the support of the staff and their fellow students. At Regent College our students come from a wide range of backgrounds and we celebrate the diversity that this brings to our college. Our teachers are all skilled and experience, ready not only to impart knowledge to the students, but also to support our students in all aspects of their development, both academic and personal. Our most recent Ofsted report of January 2009 commented ‘the quality of teaching and assessment is good and has a number of outstanding features...and students comment positively about the support they receive from teachers...’ Regent Nursery, providing childcare for children from three to five, is just one minute from the College and we have just opened a brand new facility, Burlington College, located in Edgware. Regent College is accredited by the British Accreditation Council as well as the British Council. Additionally, we are registered with the UK Border Agency in order to enrol international students and the Department for Children Schools and Families.
We offer a variety of programmes to our students including Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, (commonly known as GCSE), and A-Levels. We also offer a great deal of flexibility in terms of course structure, with both standard, traditional two-year programmes on offer and one-year GCSE and A-Level Intensive courses, which means students can pick the option that is most suited to their needs. We also offer a University Foundation Programme (UFP) which is a course designed to prepare overseas students for entry into the British university system. This one-year programme, which accepts students in September, is aimed at overseas students who wish to be admitted onto a course at a British university. The course consists of three compulsory units; IELTS and Academic English, Study Skills and Research Methods and The Social and Cultural Structures of the United Kingdom. In addition, students may choose four more units from a wide range of options including Business and ICT, Social Sciences and Science and Engineering subjects. Successful completion of this programme and a score of Level 6 or more on the IELTS exam will provide students with a qualification accredited by the University of Middlesex which will not only provide an entry point to the British university system, but also prepare them for their chosen degree programme and enable them to adjust to the British way of life.
Regent College is housed in a modern refurbished building. Facilities available include a spacious study hall, ideal for exam practice and quiet study, well-equipped computer and science laboratories, a light and airy art room, a brand new library offering a vast range of resources from reference books to past papers and a student common room and cafe. Furthermore, many students are involved in sports and facilities include a new sports court at the college as well as use of the Harrow School and Harrow Town Sports Club playing fields. There are also a variety of clubs run for students including the Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme, the Young Enterprise Scheme, Cooking Club and many more. This ensures that students have a well-rounded College life and enhances future UCAS applications.
There are a variety of reasons that Regent College performs so well. One of the main reasons is that class sizes are small, averaging just ten students. This ensures that each student gets individual attention and support from their teacher. Moreover, teachers have more time to go through work in depth ensuring full understanding by the students. Another factor that contributes to our success is our unique Four-Step Learning Model. In Step One, all students are issued with Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) where the student and subject teacher discuss which topics of work need more attention. This is then recorded in a report. In Step Two, these subject ILPs are amalgamated into a Global ILP by the Head of Learning and the Form Tutors whereby they draw up an individualised plan for the student setting out the main areas of concern and the relevant targets. In Step Three, this information, along with marks in tests, exams and homework assignments, is used to draw up a Personalised Study Programme (PSP) which students follow. In Step Four, students carry out this work during their free time under the supervision of the Learning Skills Team. Once the work is complete, it is then handed on to the relevant teacher for assessment. This system ensures that students work in a focused and targeted manner.
The results we receive speak for themselves. In a report produced in January 2008 it was found that whilst the national average number of students attaining five or more A* - C grades at GCSE stood at 61% and the average of the Borough of Harrow stood at 68%, Regent College topped the table with a remarkable 80%. Similarly, we had an outstanding A-Level pass rate of 98% in August of 2008. Moreover, in the past five years, all of our UFP students have achieved a 100% pass rate and all gained entry into British university. Students from Regent College go on to a variety of prestigious universities such as Cambridge, Durham, Warwick, The London School of Economics and University College London amongst many others. www.regentcollege.uk.com www.regentcollegelondon.com
